European Sporting Goods Research
The Sports Goods Market in Europe (35 countries)
Over the past two years, the FSPA has commissioned key detailed research into the sports goods market in 35 selected European countries.
The research concentrates on the wholesale and retail stages of the supply chain and uses common definitions to obtain comparable data on sports participation, market size etc, and a common approach to define trends in consumption, retail and wholesale distribution etc. This allows for useful comparisons and benchmarking from one country to another.
The goal of the research is to provide market information that can allow the sporting goods brands, their distributors, their agents and their retailers to expand their presence in all the European markets – including their own! The results will provide data and ideas to stimulate participation in certain under-developed sports activities, to organise the distribution in certain countries or to merchandise and market products more efficiently and successfully.
The three part project is focused in particular on sports footwear, apparel and equipment items that are used in the following sports:
- Fitness
- Team Sport(football, rugby, hockey, cricket, basketball, volleyball etc)
- Golf & Racket Sports (tennis, badminton, squash, table tennis)
- Running & Exercise (walking)

- Water Sports (swimming, scuba diving, rowing, canoeing, etc)
