FSPA supports National Childhood Obesity Week

The FSPA is pleased to be supporting the inaugural National Childhood Obesity Week! (5th – 11th July) Obesity is one of the most serious health epidemics facing our society today. With an estimated three million overweight and obese children in the UK FSPA is joining forces with the National Obesity Forum and MEND to promote the importance of healthy eating and physical activity for the UK’s young people.

For these reasons The FSPA would like to join the National Obesity Forum and MEND in encouraging families across the UK to try the following three things to help them get fitter, healthier and happier for National Childhood Obesity Week:

  1. Schedule some time every week when you spend time with your child doing something active
  2. Keep a ‘screen time’ diary for the week noting how much time you and your child spend watching TV and playing computer games.  Start by reducing TV time by 10 minutes each day
  3. Create a boredom-buster box and fill it with ideas for fun activities, including some that can be done as a family. This will encourage the whole family to become more active and will help to reduce screen time
